This past month we reached out through an American Bird Conservancy “action alert” to urge our two Senators to provide strong support to defend the ESA and prevent the efforts to have this successful law eroded. Responses were received from both Senators. The response from Senator Fetterman reinforced his position to support a strong and effective ESA and prevent efforts to weaken the act. The Response from Senator McCormick reflected his concern for some of the provisions in the ESA that he views as constraints. A copy of the letters can be found here:
The Pennsylvania Audubon Council will continue to act on these continuing threats to the Endangered Species Act. Our Council’s Conservation and Advocacy Committee and our Board of Directors will assess options to build on what we have invested over the last two years and fight the good fight to protect birds and wildlife and the habitats on which they depend.
